About Lara

I’m a professional mezzo-soprano, voice teacher, composer, and owner of Alami Voice Studio, based in the Detroit, Michigan, area. I work with singers of all voice types and levels, helping each student unlock their potential with practical tools, healthy technique, and musical insight. My teaching is rooted in the belief that singing is a lifelong journey—one fueled by dedication, discovery, and joy.

I hold a Master of Music in Vocal Pedagogy from Oakland University and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Arizona State University. My training, both academic and professional, informs every lesson I teach, blending evidence-based technique with real-world musical experience.

As a performer, I’m fortunate to work both nationally and internationally with acclaimed ensembles and companies. I regularly sing with the Grammy Award-winning Conspirare, the Grammy-nominated True Concord Voices & Orchestra, the vocal ensemble Alium Spiritum (based in Brownsville, Texas), and the Detroit-based chamber ensemble Audivi. I also perform frequently as a soloist throughout Southeast Michigan.

I’m also a composer, and I recently premiered my piece Use Your Voice for Kindness in a concert of Detroit composers, performed by both Audivi and the Community Chorus of Detroit.

In addition to concert work, I’m honored to be invited to sing the National Anthem at local events, including formal gatherings at the Detroit Athletic Club.

I am a proud member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), which enables me to offer my students access to additional performance and audition opportunities, including regional and national competitions. I believe in supporting each student’s goals—whether they’re preparing for the stage, the studio, or their personal growth.

Whether on stage or in the studio, I am passionate about music, communication, and fostering meaningful connections. I’m deeply grateful to be part of a vibrant artistic community and to support singers as they grow in confidence, skill, and artistry.
